9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. Classes for all ages |
We have been commanded by Jesus to
be disciples and teachers of His Word, and we must arm ourselves
with knowledge and understanding of that Word. Regardless of age,
our faith must be nurtured regularly with Christian education, learning,
and fellowship.
The Learning Committee
at Grace is committed to providing quality learning experiences
for all members. Classes are provided for all ages, as well as a
nursery for children younger than two years old. |
Grace welcomes and desires to nurture God’s
little ones in the safety of a caring nursery. Grace
instituted a security program that guarantees the safety and well-being
of their children. Employees are trained and an experienced nursery assistant
supervises the nursery every Sunday throughout both worship services and
during Sunday School. The security system involves a sign-in/sign-out
policy that insures that a child remains in this protected environment
until they are picked up by their parent.
A nursery is provided for children from birth
to age two.
Children who turn two on or before September
1, will be enrolled in the Two Year Old class.
As God’s children, young and old, teachers
and learners, we are witnesses to God’s action in the world. Through
Bible stories, activities, and prayer, children in these grades will learn
to know the Word, grow in faith, and learn to show service to one another.
At Grace, our goal is that children will begin
receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion by the time they are in the
5th grade. However, we recognize that many children are ready
to begin communing at a much earlier age and should not be denied access
to the sacrament simply on the basis of their birthday. Neither should
children be expected to begin receiving Holy Communion at a particular
age if they are not ready. The decision is one which should be shared
between the child, the parent(s), and the pastor. At the end of the class
sessions, appointments will be made for Pastor Mohrmann to visit with
each child in their home to talk about this wonderful gift of God’s
grace.
This Sunday morning class is a vital part of our
Confirmation Study Program. Students in this class will also use the Witness
curriculum to help build a firm foundation for Christian Growth.
Youth in 7th and 8th grades
receive instruction in the basics of the Christian faith during eight
Saturday retreats scheduled between September and April. Ninth graders
affirm their Baptism through the Rite
of Confirmation at the end of the two year course each year on Reformation
Sunday.
Through discussion and interactive activities, this
class will discover how God is present as they make decisions in their
lives.
At Grace, we believe that the education of adults is
just as important as the education of children. It may be even more important;
after all, children learn from adults. Classes are offered in modules
of six to eight weeks. Sunday School classes for adults are offered as
follows:
Bob Schavey will continue to lead a study on the
books of the Bible during the Fall and Winter months. In the Spring, Kiersten
Byrd will teach a study on “Nurturing your Spirit.”
This class, led by Earl Gatlin, will continue their
study of Dietrich Bonhoffer’s “Cost of Discipleship.”
Led by Ruth Wasserman. Curriculum will be announced.
